" I was inspired by elements of renaissance costume, which I experimented with. I exaggerated and transpired collars in several ways by pleating eco leather, to honour the silhouette of the costume—the collection is not an integral vision of Elizabethan costume, but its replica of the basic theme."
Following swooning praise from the press, outstanding awards and popularity among fashion-forward A-list celebrities like Lady Gaga, Marko launched his line.
" My approach to fashion is very artistic. It’s not much about the trends or something that is commercial that you can wear every day. I like to do conceptuals. So the story that is behind my collection is very important to me."(time out chicago)
His clothes are sculptural and theatrical in form, employing detailed construction and precise geometry for a daring aesthetic. His inspirations anchor his designs in appealing erudition—his most recent collection was based on Lady Macbeth. The collection had its basis in the structural form of renaissance costume but was exaggerated and added to with fetish and punk, thus carrying the Elizabethan era directly into subcultures of the 21st century.
