AMD counts over 1400 students in Hamburg, Munich, Duesseldorf and Berlin, and offers Bachelor’s Degree/B.A. in Fashion Design, Design Management and in the recently launched programme Visual Corporate Communications.
The academy is the only university in Germany offering a three year course (Diploma) for fashion and lifestyle journalism and media communication studies. High educational standards, individual guidance of the participants and internationally certified courses mark the academy’s approach to provide the best learning service for students and professionals adapted to the requirements of global markets.
AMD was founded in 1988 and recognized as a private, fully accredited and certified university in September 2005 by the Senate of the City of Hamburg. The Department for higher education at the Academy has been merged with the Fresenius University and has consequently become the Department of Design, an educational unit for the AMD School of Fashion and AMD School of Design, with the extended representative office in Idstein/Hessen.
The education center is for design, fashion, communication and Sectoral Management. AMD stands for over 25 years by innovation, interdisciplinarity, quality in teaching and research, comprehensive care and a high practical relevance. Accredited programs and recognized training and further education programs belong to the training offered by the AMD.
AMD's study program includes the Bachelor's Degree in Fashion Design (BA), Fashion and Design Management (BA), Room Concept & Design (BA) as well as brand & communication design, Visual & Corporate Communication (BA) and the national training in fashion journalism/media communication. The training programs Styling and corporate training courses complete the advanced training offered by the Academy.
AMD is cooperating with the international partner universities Berkeley College of New York and University of South Wales, UK. Additionally, the AMD brings international teachers from London, Milan and Paris for workshops and seminars to the house, and provides students with an internationally oriented networking. AMD forms with their study offer university legally the Design Department of the Hochschule Fresenius - University of Applied Sciences. With locations in Hamburg, Dusseldorf, Munich and Berlin, thus the AMD belongs to the largest private university presence in Germany and together with the Fresenius University based in Idstein / Hesse.
The AMD Academy for Fashion and Design in Hamburg, Munich, Düsseldorf and Berlin holds fashion shows for its students and graduates twice a year in both Munich and Düsseldorf.
This is often the beginning of a stellar career. Ayzit Bostan, Susanne Bommer, Marcel Ostertag and others have gone on to do great things at companies like adidas, P&C, Tom Tailor and Esprit or design labels such as Alexander McQueen, Issey Miyake, Dries Van Noten and A.F. Vandevorst.
