Our School of Design covers the discipline areas of Industrial Design, Fashion Design and Innovation Design. Northumbria’s design programmes are delivered internationally, with partnerships including the BINUS-Northumbria School of Design in Indonesia and the Academy of Design in Sri Lanka.
Exploring the wider business of fashion, you will study construction, concept generation and fashion forecasting across a range of themes including menswear, womenswear, performance sport and lingerie. Concepts and promotional skills will be developed through the integration of fashion graphics and photographic styling, creating exciting visual campaigns to launch future lifestyle brands. Guided by our internationally-exhibited academic team, you will explore every stage of taking a fashion product to market – from consumer research to design and promotion.
Year-long placements will immerse you directly in the industry and project briefs set by major brands such as Puma and Abercrombie and Fitch, will enhance your portfolio. Plus, our field trips and industry links allow you to travel to the fashion capitals of the world – adding a real edge to your student CV. In 2013, Northumbria was selected as one of only five universities internationally that were invited to take part in the Orange International Student Design competition. Three prizes were awarded including the Design for All prize, which was awarded to Northumbria Fashion Communication student, Melissa Smith. Our talented students have scooped awards at major events such as Graduate Fashion Week in London – the hottest spot for up-and-coming talent. Be there.
