Since 1932 the institute has annually produced specialists,even during theSecond World War when the Institute was evacuated to the Urals.
In June 1944, the Institute returned to Kiev and began to trein specialists in two specialties: technology of fabrics and knitwear technology. Since that time the Institute was named Kiev Technological Institute of Light Industry (KTILI). Under this name Institute existed 48 years.
In 1992 Kiev Technological Institute of Light Industry was accredited to the 4-th (highest) level of specialized training and renamed into the State Academy of Light Industry of Ukraine (SALIU). Later in 1999, after the re-accreditation it was renamed in Kiev National University of Technologies and Design (KNUTD).
Concidering the national and international recognition of performance and contribution to the development of national education and science, according to the President of Ukraine, the University has received national status and became known as the Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design (KNUTD).
Total university enrollment of more than 9,000 students in 32 specialties and 34 specializations. University trains bachelors and masters.
International cooperation is an integral part of KNUTD, it started in 1948.Since that time the University has trained about 1,700 experts from 71 countries.
Fruitfull colaboration of teachers and scientists from the University allowed to hold a decent position place in the national and international rankings.
Due to Ukraine’s “Top 200” universities ranking KNUTD took 26-th place in 2012. According to the "Compass" 2010 ranking of Higher Educations institutions initiated by the Company"System Capital Management" (SCM), “Foundation for Development of Ukraine" (FDU) under the "Modern Education" programme. KNUTD takes 9-th place among 20 schools. The rating reflects the assessment of university graduates and employers taking into account the compliance of the level of their educational services needed in the labour market.
Following the indikators of Scopus sciantometric databasis in the rating of higher education institutions of Ukraine as of 04/06/2012 among 100 best universities, KNUTD occupies 36-th place.
Over the many years of seminal, fruitful work the staff of the university has been repeatedly with diplomas, gifts from the President of Ukraine, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine,the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Kyiv mayor as well as diplomas of international and Ukrainian level for academic achievements and participation in competitions and exhibitions.
For more than 80 years of its existens the university has trained highly qualified professionals who work in all regions of Ukraine and abroad. Among them – the government and political figures, prominent scientists, heads of departments, enterprises, organizations and Institutions, the leading Ukrainian fashion designers. The Faculty of technologies, service and fashion is one of the largest in the university and trains the specialist of the highest qualification more than 80 years.
From year to year the teaching process, the professional level of the teaching staff and the organizational structure of the faculty have been improving. There are lecture rooms, laboratories and experimThe faculty numbers more than 1100 students. About 300 specialists and Masters defend their diploma projects and works annually (about 50 of them with distinction).
A great attention is devoted the creative and scientific work with students. All-Ukrainian Olympiads in such specialities as “Designing and Technology of sewing items” and “Designing of footwear and haberdashery items” are held every April annually. More than 50 students representing higher institutions of Ukraine, Russian, Belarus, Moldova take part in them. Khmelnitsky national university and Khmelnitsky institute of sewing items designing, Precarpathian national university, Vinnitsa institute of clothes designing and business, Mukachiv technological institute, Crimea engineering and pedagogical university, Herson state university, Eastern Ukrainian national university named after V. Dal’, Ukrainian engineering and pedagogical academy, South-Russian state university of economics and service are constant participants of these Olympiads.
At the university there is a good library - one of the largest among the higher schools in Kyiv. It numbers more than a million copies of the scientific, technical literature and fiction, as well as periodicals: modern science, computer technology, the latest trends of the world fashion in the sewing, knitting and footwear fields.
